What is the CSS box model?
The CSS box model describes an element through its content area, padding, border, and margin. These areas help explain the space an element uses and the gaps around what people see on a page.

An event card has text in the content area, room inside its border, and separation from neighbouring cards. Those spaces have different roles. Width calculations also depend on box sizing, so a declared width does not always describe the same outer boundary.
Visible size includes more than the content
The box model describes content, padding, border, and margin. Padding creates space inside an element's border; margin concerns space outside it. Two cards with the same text area can therefore occupy different amounts of room in a layout.
Sizing rules determine how a declared width relates to those parts. This becomes noticeable when several cards need to fit side by side or when a phone screen leaves little extra space. The visual boundary and the content boundary are related but distinct.
Connect spacing to clearer interfaces
The box model makes familiar design choices easier to describe. Discover ai code academy for guided coding practice and AI support, with current app details on the App Store.
