What is file handling in Python?

Python file handling means working with files to read or save information. It lets a program use data that exists outside its current run, such as a text document or a saved report.

Information that outlasts a session

A reading log can keep book titles in memory while it is running. Saving them to a file makes that information available for a later session. Reading an existing file and replacing its contents are different operations, so a file is more than a temporary variable.

Stored information outlives the current session

A file gives information a place outside a program's working memory. That can make a saved note available after the program closes. The file's location, format, and contents all affect whether another run can find and interpret the information.

Saving and loading are separate events. A value changing on screen does not by itself prove that the stored version changed too. This distinction connects file handling with a familiar question: whether the information will still be there next time.
