Offline mobile apps

Offline behaviour defines what a mobile app can do without a working connection. Reading something already saved is different from confirming a new change with a server.

Where this idea appears

A saved book list can remain useful during a lost connection, while a new edit may still be waiting to synchronize. Clear status helps avoid confusing those two situations.

Available information and pending changes differ

An app may be able to show previously saved information when the network is unavailable. That does not necessarily mean it can confirm a new shared action, such as reserving a time slot. Reading a local copy and changing a remote record involve different responsibilities.

Changes made without a connection can also need a later outcome. An item waiting to be sent and an item confirmed by the service are different states. The offline experience depends on communicating that distinction in a way the person can understand.
