Python exceptions signal that an operation could not continue normally. Understanding them helps separate an expected problem from the behaviour you intended.

A quantity written as a word may not be usable as a number. An application needs to recognize the problem and decide what useful feedback should come next.
A failed operation is part of program behaviour
Some failures only become known when an operation runs. A file may no longer exist, or information may arrive in a form the program cannot interpret. An exception signals that the normal path through that operation could not continue as expected.
Handling a failure means deciding what that situation should mean for the rest of the program. A missing optional note and a missing essential record need not have the same outcome. Recognising the difference helps explain why an error message is useful information about an operation.
