Where this idea appears

Preparing a clear message from stored information is an everyday programming task. Text connects the values inside a program to something a person can read.

Text has structure as well as content

A string can represent a name, a sentence, or a reference number. Its characters have an order, and details such as spaces and capital letters can affect comparisons. Two labels that look similar to a reader may still be different pieces of text to a program.

There is also a difference between changing how text is displayed and changing the original information. A shortened preview of a long note does not have to replace the full note. That separation helps make text handling easier to understand.
