What do links and images do in HTML?
HTML links connect a page to another destination, while images bring visual content into the document. They serve different roles: a link provides navigation, and an image communicates information or decoration.

An event page may show a venue photograph and link to travel information. The photo helps identify the place; the link gives a route to another resource. When the image carries useful information, a text alternative helps convey its purpose without relying on sight.
A destination and a description give context
A link connects the current page to another location or resource. Its wording helps someone decide whether following it will answer their question. Several links labelled only here can have different destinations without explaining those differences to the reader.
Images also have a role in the surrounding content. A diagram conveying information and a decorative shape do not need the same description. Understanding what an image contributes helps explain why its alternative text concerns meaning, rather than simply naming the file.
